Places I’ve visited after being inspired by a book…..

Ireland

ireland

I’ve always wanted to go to Ireland, since my family comes from there, but there have been some books that really made me want to go! I got to study abroad in Ireland for 6 months during my undergraduate work, and it. was. amazing.

Elemental World Series by Elizabeth Hunter (Adult Urban Fantasy/Romances)
Daughter of Ireland by Juliene Osborne-McKnight (Adult Historical Fantasy)

Scotland

scotland

Scotland has captured my imagination since I was young, probably because my father was stationed there in the Navy and I grew up hearing about the Highlands. I got to go to Edinburgh for a week, but haven’t gotten to the Highlands yet.

England/London

london

I’m sure anyone who has read Harry Potter or seen the movies has wanted to visit London at least a little bit! As a fan of Shakespeare, Sherlock Holmes stories, and so very many other england-based stories, I too always had it on my “to-go” list. I was lucky enough to visit a couple times while I lived in Ireland, and i did indeed get to visit “Platform 9 3/4”!!

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling (YA fantasy)

Denmark

denmark

I started reading adult romance novels when I was pretty young, like 13-14 probably and some of the first ones I read were these Viking time-travel romances. So I fell in love with Viking history and Norse culture when I was pretty young. then when I studied in Ireland I took a history class on the Vikings, so I always wanted to visit a northern european country. I got to visit Denmark and got to see their Viking Ship museum. It was an incredible country. Probably my favorite of the places I visited abroad!

Paris

paris

I was an Art History major for my undergraduate degree, so obviously I had to visit Paris (aka the Lourve). But after reading The Da Vinci Code and seeing the film many years ago, I definitely knew I had to visit the city of lights. The museums were amazing, but the city itself left me feeling … “meh”… compared to some of the others I visited!

Rome/Italy

rome

Ok I’ve always been a huge ancient history buff, and I was really into ancient mythology and such when I was younger, so Italy was always going to be a dream destination for me. I read a lot of roman myths and histories, Shakespeare’s Caesar, and other historical fiction taking place in Italy, which made me want to visit. I couldn’t think of a lot of the books, but Angel’s and Demons does stand out in my mind!

And here are some places I WANT to visit, but haven’t yet…

Romania

romania

I’ve always been oddly compelled by Romania and am eager to visit, though I have not gotten too yet. I think its the architecture that is a big part of what draws me. Then, at my first “adult” job I became friends with a girl who is from Romania, and her stories have only made me want to visit even more. Hopefully I will get there soon!

Circus of the Darned series by Katie Maxwell (YA fantasy)
Dracula by Bram Stoker – Classic Horror
Night Prince series by Jeaniene Frost (Adult Paranormal Romance)

Japan

japan

There’s so much about Japanese culture that is rich, vibrant, and alluring that its on my list of places to visit. I recently read a book that took place there which I feel really gives a good feel for the culture and the country….

  2. I’m so jealous that you got to study abroad in Ireland! That must have been incredible. I want to travel there so bad. It’s so gorgeous and amazing and I love Irish folklore. Part of my family comes from there too so I think that definitely fuels my obsession a bit haha. I’ve only ever read one series that had a book that was partly set in Ireland so I am adding your recs to my TBR because I can never find enough books set there lol.
